Records of the law firm of John Ball and James H. McKee, 1835, 1908, undated, include: Legal Records covering Estates, Divorces, Chancery cases, and Debt Collection; Correspondence from cliients, lawyers, legal firms, banks, and various land offices; larger case files of the Bank of Lansingburgh (N.Y.) and the Indian Mill Creek Salt Co. (Grand Rapids, Mich.); and numerous Land Records, such as State Tax Deeds, Indentures, Mortgages, Bounty Lands for veterans and their widows, Deeds, Plat Maps, and Receipts for land. Also included are McKee family records, including: Correspondence, 1840s-1874, undated; Legal Cases; and Aaron McKee's inheritance case, 1856-1864. The license for Ball and McKee, 1862, and information concerning the removal of the Soldiers' Memorial in Grand Rapids, 1908, is also included.

John Ball (1794-1884) was the son of Nathaniel and Deborah Ball. In 1836 he moved to Mich. Territory. John opened a law office, Ball and McKee, in Grand Rapids, and served as a representative from Kent and other counties (1838).
